FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Newest RTR Fundraiser a Smashing Success![[New!]](images/smallnew.gif)
March 13, 2003 – MARSHFIELD, MA – Amazing. Unbelievable.
Fantastic. These are just a few of the superlatives officials at Road to
Responsibility are using to describe its first annual Jazz Blues Sunday Brunch
and Auction, held this past March 9th. The financial results were
equally dramatic, raising an astounding $ 60,400! Money that will be used to
support the residential, recreational and employment programs RTR provides to
disabled adults.
Over three hundred guests flocked to RTR’s Ocean Village Nor’easter Function
Hall in South Weymouth to attend the gala affair where they enjoyed live
entertainment, Bloody Mary’s, Mimosa’s and a delicious gourmet brunch supplied
by a dozen of the area’s most popular restaurants and caterers. An extensive
array of spectacular gifts including exotic trips, weekend getaways, Jimmy
Buffett concert tickets, original artwork, jewelry, and autographed political
and sports memorabilia (to name just a few) made the silent auction tremendous
fun, and led to several exciting “bidding wars” during the live auction.
“We
are, quite honestly, overwhelmed,” said Road to Responsibility vice president
and co-founder, Cass Walker, who headed up a committee of volunteers, employees
and RTR Board members responsible for planning the activities. Due to the
significant cuts in the state’s human services budget, Walker says RTR’s
fundraising events, which have always been an important revenue tool, are now
more critical than ever. Founded in 1989, Road to Responsibility has received
both local and national recognition for its success in enriching the lives of
adults whose disabilities range from mental retardation to physical and
emotional impairments.
Walker marvels at the level of support Road to Responsibility enjoys both from
their constituent donors and the business community throughout the greater
Boston area. “Everyone has been so incredibly generous that I really can’t
adequately express our appreciation. I only hope they realize how truly grateful
we are.”

RTR, MERRILL LYNCH ANNOUNCE FREE FINANCIAL PLANNING
SYMPOSIUM FOR ‘SPECIAL NEEDS FAMILIES’![[New!]](images/smallnew.gif)
April 7, 2003 – MARSHFIELD, MA – Road to Responsibility, Inc. (RTR), a
Marshfield based human services provider will be hosting a financial planning
symposium for special needs families on Wednesday, May 14, 2003, from 6:30 p.m.
– 8:00 p.m at the Ocean Village Nor’easter Function Hall in Weymouth.
Mary Cole, of Merrill Lynch, the financial services company sponsoring the
seminar, will be on hand to provide valuable information and answer questions.
Ms. Cole is an expert in financial planning strategies for disabled persons.
According to RTR president, Richard J. Walker, Jr., many families are either
unaware or fail to take advantage of very legitimate ways of ensuring a higher
quality of life and at least some measure of financial security for their loved
one. “I would urge anyone who has a family member with a disability, to attend
this session - regardless of their particular financial circumstances,” said
Walker. Admission to the symposium is free and open to anyone with a member of
their family or friend who is either developmentally delayed or has a physical
or emotional disability.
Road to Responsibility is one of the Commonwealth’s largest, most respected
providers of residential, recreational, employment and day habilitation
services. Currently more than one thousand individuals with disabilities benefit
from their award winning programs.
The
Ocean Village Nor’easter Function Hall is located at 30 Pidgeon Road on the
grounds of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station. For further information
or directions call Karen Brazil at Road to Responsibility, 781-834-1300, ext.
